Svetlana Zakharova
I explore how inner states and thought processes can take visual form. Realistic representation has always felt too unambiguous to me: it left too little room for the viewer’s own thoughts and for what can emerge beyond the immediately visible. That is why I turned to abstraction.
I always approach the canvas with a complete image in mind. The painting already exists in my head, and what matters from there is not losing its emotional state in the process. I have limited my palette to black, white and red because there is already too much colour around us. Black carries difficult emotions, red carries strength and life, and white remains the background.
