Collective Voices 2nd Edition: Being-in-the-World continues JustArt’s commitment to building a shared space for artistic exchange, dialogue, and visibility. This exhibition brings together a mix of returning artists from the first edition alongside new voices, creating a conversation between continuity and emergence, familiarity and discovery.
Part 1 presents works by some of the artists from the first edition; individuals who have grown alongside our platform and whom we now consider a core part of our community. During the curatorial process, encountering these familiar names and practices reminded us of how artistic relationships evolve over time. Their return reflects the importance of sustained support, ongoing dialogue, and the shared journey of artistic development.
Part 2 introduces new artists into this expanding ecosystem, opening space for fresh perspectives, experiences, and forms of expression. Together, both parts explore how collective voices are not static but constantly forming, shifting, and expanding. The exhibition becomes a living network; one that connects past and present, inside and outside, emerging and established.
For JustArt, collective voices represent more than a grouping of artists. It is a belief in the power of community — that artistic practice thrives through shared experiences, mutual support, and open exchange. In a cultural landscape where access and visibility are often shaped by systems of gatekeeping, we seek to create opportunities for artists to be seen, heard, and connected. We hope to act as a bridge between artists and audiences.
The exhibition takes place at Safehouse, a broken building that reflects our ethos. While fragmented and imperfect, it embodies the idea that growth can emerge from damaged spaces. Safehouse becomes a metaphor for resilience, as a site where art transforms limitation into possibility and where new forms of dialogue can take root.
Hosting two exhibitions within two months reflects our belief in the limitless potential of artists and opportunities. Collective Voices is not a singular event but part of an ongoing process of building a communal platform for artistic exchange, experimentation, and discussion.
Though it may seem ambitious, JustArt strives to provide a stage for artists and to foster a shared environment where art can connect people, ideas, and experiences. Through this exhibition, we celebrate the multiplicity of voices that shape contemporary practice and the collective energy that allows art to grow.
Words by Jenny Lin:
JustArt Collective, established in August 2024 and still growing to this day, has received strong support from many artists, and I am truly grateful for their enthusiasm and active participation. As a curator, planning a group exhibition is never easy. We hope JustArt’s exhibitions can be clearly distinguished from other, more traditional shows by creating a new space where artists, curators, collectors, and art lovers can engage in open, free dialogue.
Importantly, this conversation does not have to centre on money. It is, above all, about art itself. For us, the art community is essential; it is the foundation of JustArt. We hope to better understand the artists and the stories behind their works, as well as the connections between the artworks and their audiences. By doing so, we can develop more targeted and meaningful curatorial approaches, allowing each exhibition to resonate with both artists and viewers on a deeper level.
Words by Steph Leung:
As assistant curator of the first edition, I witnessed the many challenges behind bringing an exhibition to life, from logistical obstacles to structural barriers within the mainstream art world. The sudden need to change venues due to external opinions on our artists was a reminder of the cultural gatekeeping that continues to shape artistic exposure. This experience reinforced our commitment to creating spaces that resist exclusion and champion diverse practices.
